Vans
Vans are a relatively unheard of but still dangerous source of motor vehicle accidents. Large, 15-passenger vans are frequently used by organizations such as schools, colleges, churches, hotels and businesses to transport large groups of people and cargo to and from activities. Unfortunately, many of these vehicles are poorly designed and cause injury; at the Scanlan Law Group, we aggressively represent individuals that have been injured by these poorly designed vehicles.
The danger inherent in large vans is their top-heavy design. They have a high center of gravity and when overloaded can become terribly unstable. As a result, they are subject to fishtail and rollover accidents, as well as all of the other types of accidents associated with motor vehicles. In April 2001 the U.S. Department of Transportation issued a warning regarding the increased risk of rollovers in 15-passenger vans. As a result, many automakers have stopped making the 15-passenger van. However, there are an estimated 500,000 of these vehicles still in service, and the threat of injury and death from them is still a very real one. In fact, since 1990 over 400 people have died due to single-vehicle rollover accidents in 15-passenger vans.
The injuries that can result from van related accidents are depressingly familiar: brain and spinal cord injuries; sprains; fractures; abrasions; internal and soft tissue injuries; burn injuries; and just about every other injury associated with the operation of other motorized vehicles.
Because van cases can be very complex, you need experienced and aggressive attorneys to successfully handle them. The Scanlan Law Group has the necessary experience. We have sued van manufacturers and other individuals responsible for van injuries, and we are not afraid to take them to trial if one of our clients has been injured. Accordingly, if you or someone you know have sustained a van related injury, contact the Scanlan Law Group for a free initial consultation.
